Where Ideas Come To Die
Work Craft
My life has consisted of World of Warcraft and Work for the past few months. If I could somehow combine the two that'd be pretty cool.
San Francisco
I was in San Francisco on a business trip for a week.
What an odd city.
The Philadelphia Experience
I went up to Philadelphia for the first time in my life today. Here is my one sentence review of it.
“Much nicer than the slum it should be.”
The Job
So I got myself a job in the tech field, after giving up looking. Isn't that just the bee's knees?
I started this past Wednesday and did some beta/bug testing, license renewal and field work. Good times.
Two Jobs!
Following the lead of some people I have taken a second job back at KB Toys doing freight on Thursday and Friday mornings.
I'm not sure how people handle two jobs on a regular daily basis. I'm worn out from two days in a row of 8am to 10pm.
The purpose of this is to just have spending money and save the money from my new job. Time will tell how long it lasts.
Training
I returned from training last night and I didn't miss an episode of Gundam SEED since Cartoon Network was kind enough to show a marathon of Samurai Jack and Clone Wars instead.
The most exciting time of my trip came on the road down to Fredricksburg. My car broke on 95 South. An anti-freeze hose broke so I was running just a little bit hot. So after getting to a decent place to pull over I did so and the car promptly died. I called my brother, who is a mechanic, to help me out. He rolled up in his Suburban and added anti-freeze after seeing the overflow was empty, that's when we discovered that the hose was broken. He fixed it, I watched, and I got on the road again.
I arrived shortly after 2pm and met with the crew at the store down there. After working a bit I checked into the Hampton Inn, owned by the Hilton people, and that ended my exciting day.
The next week was filled with learning the ropes, and strengthening what I already knew. I'm not sure what I learned there that I couldn't have learned at the Bowie store, but the one thing they had there was time, which is really important.
The area down there is country. Had one customer sound like Boomhauer from King of the Hill. Checks were more popular than debit cards, which totally shocked me. I took some pictures of the area, a lot of the downtown area, and a bunch of stupid cars that I saw, the Eclipse with ricer parts was popular in the area. I'll get around to posting some of them eventually.
Penguin Powered
We installed the POS system at work last night. It's Linux dressed up to look like Linux. The backoffice program's icon is the old Netscape icon, I don't get it.
Staying Around
For writing about work I'm surprised I haven't written about this before.
KB Toys filed chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. We're not going out of business, so all you vultures will have to wait a few years. The day after the announcement I got a call asking about our going out of business sale, people suck.
My store is not on the chopping block, so I have a job for the foreseeable future.
Hell Week
This week we are open from 8am to 11pm. From the hour of 10 to 11 last night we had three customers, it was so worth it.
I'll be tired until December 26th.
